Elegant Apartment Development in Windermere

Located in Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District, Lipwood House is a stately manor house of the local slate vernacular. Originally a gentleman’s residence, the building had previously been adapted into apartments, however did not meet current standards in terms of fire safety.

LIND Studio was engaged to convert the building into 6no high quality dwellings suitable for 21st century habitation, and also transform the dated interiors, balancing traditional features with contemporary finishes.

Externally, the property has had a full overhaul with the historic sash windows restored and painted, the roof repaired and chimneys capped with lead in a traditional lakeland fashion. The asbestos roof previously over the annex has been swapped for a grey zinc roof and the timber cladding renewed to the gable end.

Internally, the apartments were completely refurbished, each with a unique feel and aesthetic. Original features such as high ceilings, arched openings and decorative mouldings were retained, adding to the luxurious feel of the development.
