Multi-Unit Housing Scheme in Central Salford

Re-imagining the Adelphi Lad's Club, Salford

LIND Studio was engaged to re-imagine the site of the former Adelphi Lad’s Club in Salford for residential purposes. Following an in-depth analysis of the site constraints, surrounding context and local policy, a 19no unit terraced housing scheme was developed. The overarching aim for the site was to design a scheme centred around the urban oasis, prioritising greenery and outdoor amenity space for the residents. 

The two terraces follow the topography of the site, enclosing a central courtyard offering secure parking and a shared communal garden. Particular care was given to the site boundary, with soft landscaping proposed to break up the frontage and provide opportunity for biodiversity to thrive.

Taking precedent from both the immediate and wider industrial background, the scheme proposes brick as the principal building material. A subtle distinction in materiality is proposed to the base ‘plinth’, creating private gardens, landscaping areas and clear defensible space.
